September Indie Author Feature: Jennifer J. Coldwater

After a brief summer hiatus, my monthly indie author feature is back. I am thrilled to continue highlighting those in the indie community. This month, I am focusing on Jennifer J. Coldwater, author of rom-com suspense. Her latest release, Threes a Charm, is currently releasing chapters on Kindle Vella; however, the full novel will publish in November 2024.

In the cutthroat world of criminal defense, Divya, a brilliant attorney, wields an extraordinary talent: the ability to vividly witness scenes of violence when they are described to her. This unique gift (or is it a curse?) makes her a formidable force in the courtroom, proving innocence in seemingly impossible cases.

Happily married to a dedicated District Attorney, Divya’s life is a perfect balance of love and law. Their passionate and smoldering connection fuels their professional and personal lives. But when a new private investigator joins Divya’s team, the dynamic shifts. Both Divya and her husband find themselves irresistibly drawn to this intriguing newcomer, sparking a forbidden attraction they struggle to resist.

As the trio navigates the complex web of justice and desire, they must keep their relationship professional to save their reputations and careers. With a high-stakes case that could make or break them, Divya’s ability to uncover the truth is more crucial than ever. Will they manage to prove their client’s innocence while grappling with their own tangled emotions?

Inspired by the story of Deborah in Judges, Three’s a Charm is a sizzling contemporary romance that will leave you breathless and craving more. Perfect for fans of Perry Mason, Medium, and You Me Her, this story delivers a thrilling ride to a happily ever after.

Author Interview with Jennifer J. Coldwater

What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?

Ha! Great question. I love writing in Georgia. It’s like Times New Roman got a glow up.

If you had to give up your keyboard and write your stories exclusively by hand, could you do it? If you already write everything by hand, a) are you a wizard and b) pen or pencil?

Haha! I think I could make the switch. But things would slow way way down. (And I’m already a very slow writer!)

What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?

Your questions make me extremely happy. (It was that carnival game on boardwalk in 1988, dammit.)

What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?

Feral.

Do you have any writing superstitions? What are they and why are they 100% true?

Not so much superstitions as rituals, I guess. Like, I have to read the scene I wrote last before I can start a new one. And I have to have at least two beverages in easy reach. And the TV has to be on but muted. All perfectly normal behavior, right?

What is your darkest fear about writing?

That the well will run dry. That I’ll sit down at the keyboard one day and zero thoughts will come. Shudder.

What is your deepest joy about writing?

I have gotten some of the kindest notes from readers thanking me for writing queer characters. It gives me great joy to help people see themselves (or their family members!) in a romance novel.
