Book Club Feedback on Time for Once

CONTAINS SPOILERS

The Kishwaukee College 5th Tuesday book club met on March 28th. A couple of us were “Team Palmer” and are looking forward to the next book.

Favorite discussion points about this book included the embracing of cliches along with the clever metaphors and phrases used throughout, from the title of the book to “red-sweater confident,” “quarter-life crisis,” and “imposter adulthood.”

A few quotes we enjoyed:

  • “undernourished reality fed by the empty calories of others’ expectations”

  • “his pace was impossible to catch”

  • “I couldn’t convince my heart to speed up”

  • “let bygones be hormones”

  • “we can keep you in you if you is all you have”

  •  “drops of wetness … expectations of tomorrow… dripped onto the floor”

… and the ice/lake metaphor on page 120 along with the elevation of the word “okay.”

We talked about the grand themes of fate, alcohol, and eating disorders. I thought you’d like the feedback 🙂 Good job!
